About Guarding Wellness Real Therapy For Real Life

Why We Exist

For too long, men and teen boys of color have been told to be strong, stay quiet, and push through. Guarding Wellness exists to change that. We provide culturally competent therapy that meets you where you are — without judgment, without explanation, without having to translate your experience for your therapist.

What 'Culturally Competent' Means Here

Who We Serve

We work with adult men and teen boys (with parent/guardian involvement for minors) navigating stress, anxiety, depression, grief & loss, trauma, life transitions, self-esteem and the everyday pressures that come with being a man of color in today’s world.

Our Approach

Therapy at Guarding Wellness is collaborative and practical. We draw on evidence-based approaches and adapt them to fit your life, your culture, and your goals. You set the pace. We bring the tools.

Meet the Therapist Sherrod Brown, LCSW

Sherrod’s path to this work started in his hometown of Harlem, New York and took shape in the city of Chicago. Over 15 years as a school social worker with Chicago Public Schools, he sat with hundreds of young people who were carrying more than anyone realized — and learned that the right question, asked in the right space, can change the direction of a life.

He’s spent the last 7 years as a therapist, and along the way noticed the same gap again and again: men and teen boys of color rarely had a room built with them in mind. Guarding Wellness is that room.

Sherrod works with clients the way he worked with students — patiently, directly, and without judgment. He believes therapy shouldn’t require you to translate yourself first. You bring your story; he brings the tools and the space to use them.
